Interview with Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney

We received a phone call from a previous client that I had done work for in the past. They’re coming from Canada as they pursue to complete their next latest documentary that is set to be picked up by Hulu. At least that is the hope for this one. They needed the basics for this production. In our last shoot, I came pretty loaded with gear and it took roughly an hour and change to get our interview set up just right. However, that was not the case for this production. The client explained that we’re shooting the former Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney, and we’ll need to move quickly on this one. We had about 20 minutes to set up everything, cameras, lighting, and audio. We got it done in 18 minutes. I was pretty pleased with the results. However, I will note, had it been a purely sunny day, as it is most days in Miami, this would’ve been a very different outcome. The excellent cloud cover allowed the talent’s background to remain perfectly lit compared to him. I purposely only brought out our Sony FX3 cameras as we needed to move fast. On the last shoot, I had an FX9 and a Sony a7siii. Nanlite Forza 500 with a dome soft-box was needed here since I know it was an outdoor shoot, and my Forza 300B probably would not have had the strength to light outdoors with a soft-box properly. The results below are with the Forza 500 at 100% strength. It’s a beast of a light. Simply Sennheiser AVX lav for quick and simple audio, and that was it.
